Herb Riband features on UHC panel
Thursday December 12, 2024
Re:solve Global Health x Amgen UHC Special Report Launch
Online
On UHC Day, Amgen and Re:solve Global Health will bring together global health leaders, policymakers, and advocates to launch Resolve’s special report, The Path to Universal Health Coverage. This report confronts a critical question of our time: how can the global community work together to achieve universal health coverage that ensures equitable access to essential services for all by 2030?
Universal Health Coverage (UHC) is essential not only for health equity but also as a foundation for sustainable development. Today, nearly half of the global population lacks access to essential health services, with out-of-pocket expenses pushing millions into poverty each year. The COVID-19 pandemic has further exposed vulnerabilities in health systems worldwide, underscoring the urgency of UHC.
Herb Riband, Director of Access Accelerated, will participate in the panel, bringing attention to the intersection of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and UHC. Herb will highlight Access Accelerated’s initiatives aimed at addressing both NCD and UHC goals and discuss the new Financing Accelerator Network for NCDs (FAN), a transformative initiative under the Access Accelerated-World Bank technical partnership, dedicated to driving scalable and sustainable progress on NCDs within the UHC framework.
Herb will join a distinguished panel of speakers, including:
- Dr. Shabnum Sarfraz, Global Director for Gender and Health, Women in Global Health
- Sean Lybrand, Executive Director and Strategic Lead, Access to Healthcare, Amgen
