Innovative Health Financing Solutions for Sustainable Cancer Care
Geneva, Switzerland
As countries strive for Universal Health Coverage (UHC), how health systems are financed has become one of the most critical yet often overlooked issues. In many low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), families are still required to pay out of pocket for lifesaving care. For cancer patients, this often leads to difficult choices, delayed treatment, and increasing inequality.
Traditional financing models, based on outdated budgets or fee-for-service agreements, are not suitable for cancer care. These models prioritise quantity over quality and fail to account for the long-term, complex nature of cancer treatment. As a result, there is a disconnect between how cancer care should be delivered and how it is funded.
To address this challenge, Access Accelerated and City Cancer Challenge will host a dedicated side event during the World Health Assembly on May 21, 2025, to reimagine cancer financing.
The event will explore innovative ideas, such as pooling resources, strategic purchasing, and domestic investment, to transform cancer financing from a barrier into a catalyst for equity and resilience. We will hear from global leaders and local changemakers who are working on the frontlines of reform, connecting financing innovations to real-world impact.
At the core of this discussion is a fundamental principle: cancer care must be designed for people, not just for systems.
Please note, this event is open by invitation only.
