The Financing Accelerator Network for NCDs (FAN) has released its first annual report, marking early progress in advancing sustainable financing for noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) in low- and middle-income countries. FAN was launched through a technical partnership between Access Accelerated and the World Bank, in close cooperation with Results for Development (R4D), to unite global and local organizations working toward this shared goal.

2024 milestones:

  • Launched the first regional NCD Financing Accelerator in Sub-Saharan Africa, hosted by the African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP).
  • Established a 20-member Technical Advisory Group, bringing together experts from Ministries of Health and Finance, the private sector, civil society, and multilateral organizations.
  • Initiated a ground-breaking NCD Financing Landscape Study for Sub-Saharan Africa to map key challenges and opportunities.

Preliminary findings from the NCD Financing Landscape Study were shared this month at the Global NCD Alliance Forum in Kigali, Rwanda, where Access Accelerated hosted a well-attended symposium, Gaps and Opportunities in NCD Financing in Sub-Saharan Africa: Transforming Insights into Impact.” The session generated strong interest and valuable feedback from participants.

Access Accelerated will continue these discussions at key global forums, including side events during the World Health Assembly (Geneva) in May and the UN High-Level Meeting on NCDs and Mental Health (New York) in September.

Through strong collaboration between Access Accelerated, the World Bank, R4D, AFIDEP, and other partners, FAN is well-positioned to help countries drive meaningful change in NCD financing—especially in a challenging fiscal landscape.
