City Cancer Challenge
Who We Are?
City Cancer Challenge (C/Can) works with local people to build a global community of cities, institutions, and partners. It empowers that community with the tools, processes, and structures to improve cancer care locally and share what is learned at the city level with the rest of the world so that local innovation can reap global benefits.
Launched in January 2017, City Cancer Challenge was conceived by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). C/Can became a standalone Swiss foundation in January 2019, and continues to operate in close collaboration with UICC’s network of over 1000 members in 160 countries, representing major cancer societies, patient groups, and influential policymakers, researchers, and experts from around the world.
What we Do?
For cities, addressing the complex array of issues that can hinder access to quality cancer treatment can be overwhelming. To meet this need, City Cancer Challenge serves as a unique platform to increase the number of people with access to quality cancer care in cities through a truly multisectoral approach. With access to both technical and financial resources, cities are supported to strengthen their capacity, leadership and accountability in the delivery of cancer care, and engage in the design and implementation of a cancer treatment and care solution that meets the needs of their population.
The partnership focuses on working together towards improved access to quality cancer treatment and care in cities around the world.
